Each year the Mayor awards a Grant of £200 to a young person who has demonstrated outstanding ability and who would benefit from financial assistance to help them progress in their chosen sport or art.

Student Community Shield – Recipient 2025/2026

We were delighted to present this year’s Student Community Award to Scarlett, a Year 7 student from Dean Academy.

Scarlett was nominated in recognition of her outstanding fundraising efforts for the MPS Society, inspired by supporting her friend who lives with the rare condition MPS VI.

Last year, Scarlett completed an incredible 50km off-road cycle ride, and this year she is taking on an even bigger challenge — cycling 80km in just one day.

Her kindness, determination and commitment to helping others make her a truly deserving recipient of this award.

Congratulations Scarlett, a fantastic example of community spirit and making a difference.
